How Often Should I Change My Oil?
For maximum protection,
most oil companies recommend an oil change every 3,000 miles or three
to six months regardless of what type of driving you do.
As an engine accumulates
miles, it dumps more unburned fuel into the crankcase which dilutes
the oil. This causes the oil to break down. If the oil isn't changed
frequently enough, you can end up with accelerated wear and associated
engine problems such as loss of performance and fuel economy, increased
emissions and oil consumption.
Regular oil changes, including
replacing the oil filter, should be part of the preventative maintenance
for your vehicle and are cheap insurance against engine wear.
